Mustangs Pound Pirates
For two years now, the LRHS Mustangs entered the Braden River game as underdogs (according to the local media), and for two years th
e Mustangs have prevailed. The Mustangs went on the road to defeat the Pirates 28-18, in front of a capacity crowd. The game went just the way the Mustangs preferred, as the Ranch Offensive line dominated the line of scrimmage and outmuscled the Pirates, grinding out over 200 yards on the ground. The ‘Stangs ground game was led by Mackenzie Hathaway, who rushed for 126 yards and two scores. Andre Christiano added another 70, while Sam Harper chipped in 23 yards. Senior QB Jeren Kowalewski also scored twice and threw several nice passes as he solidly managed the game. The real story ho
wever, was at the line of scrimmage, where the Mustangs offensive line punished the Pirates defensive line. Time and again, it was apparent what the Mustangs wanted to do, and Pirates seemed powerless to do anything about it. The defense also did just enough to hold back the Pirate offense and finished the game off with two late interceptions. In all it was a great night to be a Mustang!
Fall Camp Begins

Catching up with...
I recently caught up with former Mustang Football player Peter Latham. He is currently attending St Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin. Latham is playing football for the Green Knights, a NCAA Division III school that plays out of the Midwest Conference. We often here about former players heading to schools on scholarship, but we rarely hear about their experiences until after their playing days have ended. I spoke with Peter, via email, on life away from the Ranch.
Peter is enjoying his time at St Norbert's and De Pere, the small community town of about 20,000 residents. The Green Bay suburb is all about family and character, according to Latham. The school work has been challenging and takes up a lot of his time, as he is majoring in Political Science, with double minors in Philosophy and Computer Science. He is also learning to be independent as he is responsible for many things that he didn't have to worry about when he was at home (i.e. laundry, and meals). Football has been great so far, as Peter has gotten a lot of playing time as a third down pass rushing specialist. Peter says that the community support for the team has been great, as the new stadium is always filled for home games. Peter keeps up, through his family, with Mustang football. He says that he would, "sell my soul for one more game at the ranch", and that the Mustang players should, "keep up the good work, and realize how little time they have left". He loves the college experience but notes that football isn't the same when high school is over.
The message rings true for all sports- enjoy your high school sports experience. If you are fortunate enough to play athletics in college, you will find that it is much more 'business-like' than the fun you have while playing in high school.
